This is Part 1 of a UE4 art test project that was part of an application in September of 2019. The objective was to test out different workflows, methods, lighting and shader techniques useful for realistic / photorealistic forest environments.
I decided to focus mainly on small biome exploration and set dressing that would hold up on close-up shots. The entire scene uses vanilla dynamic lighting (no RTX), distance field AO, real-time GI (Light Propagation Volume) and runs at around 25-30fps on my old GTX 980ti in WQHD resolution and cinematic quality.
This part of the art test took around 2 weeks including RnD and different test setups.
The entire project relies heavily on Megascans Scan Assets and a few MAWI United assets.
