I simply wanted to create the most realistic, "life-like" 3d lightsaber prop I could possibly do. It ended up winning the scifiathlon2016 held by Quixel.
Being the first proper highpoly model I've ever made this indeed increased my 3d modeling and texturing skills alot. I kept the model and the textures as close to real-life reference (movie props etc) as possible.
Nearly everything is modeled in Maya2016. However the crystals were sculpted in Zbrush.
