FAB Sample Scene - Dark Ruins

And another one for the books this year!

We wanted to give back to the community and are incredibly happy and excited to bring you Dark Ruins - a free sample scene available via Fab for Unreal Engine 5.5.

As a Senior Environment Artist, my main tasks were focused on setdressing and shader / texture work.
While we relied heavily on out-of-the-box Megascans assets, we did make sure to provide versatile content. A lot of the larger scan assets are using a very scalable shader-solution to improve detail and texel density with heavily reduced texture footprint. I made sure to also completely overhaul and improve shader functionality for our regular assets. The new material is packed with helpful functions and a more holistic range of adjustments, including improved spec functionality, flexible RGB-pack selection and exposable Custom Primitive Data Overwrites to name just a few. Additionally, I was tasked with creating the shallow water shader that was used for puddles and the calm ocean, custom buffer visualizations for PBR safe ranges as well as procedural fog and crack texture generators.
